NEWS!
09/13/2007 - While public interest in using SQL_HIPAA for other applications never materialized, it has been in constant use by Freemed-YiRC since inception by it's sponsoring agency, LHS - Family & Youth Services. In fact, it's been updated recently (April 2007) for NPI, and COB functionality has also very recently been introduced. When COB testing is complete, I will release a new version here. I may also move all information relating to SQL_HIPAA into the Freemed-YiRC Wiki as well at some point in the future.
08/08/2003 - SQL_HIPAA Beta0.01 Released! It's been quite some time since this page has been update. Work has continued on this project, and my agency (LHS - Family & Youth Services in Toledo, OH) has sucessfully used SQL_HIPAA (with Freemed-YiRC) to generate test files, and has recently submitted our first live billing file to Ohio's medicaid system (MACSIS). So now, I'm proud to release the code that we're using! The docs might not be totally up to date (especially the table specs), but this is the exact code we're using at this time!
Project Summary
SQL_HIPAA is a project that, when completed, will allow any software package to export billable medical records into SQL tables, and take those records to create a HIPAA-compliant EDI 837p file.
Although the focus of SQL_HIPAA will be on Ohio's MACSIS system and New Yorks medicaid system, we hope to make HIPAA usable by as many locales as possible. The primary focus is for patients who are wholly covered by medicaid. It is not likely that SQL_HIPAA will handle insurance billings any time soon!
For more information, please read the current manual!
There are currently two versions of SQL_HIPAA planned:
SQL_HIPPA-PHP: Written in PHP. But it can be used by most anyone via the PHP command-line interpreter. This is the homepage for SQL_HIPAA-PHP. The primary author is Joe Thielen <joethielen@familyandyouth.org>.
SQL_HIPAA-Perl: Written in Perl. The home page for SQL_HIPAA-Perl is sqlhipaa.regina-project.org. It's primary author is Thomas Good <tomg@sqlclinic.net>.
